A Welcome from Tides Foundation
We at Tides Foundation are proud to present the first annual prize program in public interest computing. With this prize, the biggest winners are nonprofits working for social change.


In our contemporary world, prizes help focus attention on behaviors that prize-givers feel ought to be valued. Crusading journalists can win prizes for exposing corruption. Diplomats can win prizes for forging peace. Doctors can win prizes for finding cures. Prizes, the record shows, can help both promote and publicize achievement in a body of work important to social progress.

Within the world of public interest computing on behalf of social change organizations, no significant prize has up to now existed. We at Tides Foundation believe that the Antonio Pizzigati Prize for Software in the Public Interest both honors the field and adds more value to the work of those who labor within it.

Tides Foundation regularly partners with donors to increase and organize resources for positive social change, and this prize initiative, in that tradition, is funded by the Florence and Frances Family Fund of Tides Foundation.
