Allison Fine, Joseph Mouzon, and Katrin Verclas, the three original prize judges, all have long and broad experience in public interest computing. As of 2010, Allison and Katrin are no longer serving on the Advisory Panel and we thank them for their invaluable contributions as founding judges.
Joseph was joined this year by Erika Bjune. Nick Pizzigati sits on the panel as an ex officio member, representing the Florence and Frances Family Fund of Tides Foundation. In 2008, George Hotelling, the inaugural winner of the Pizzigati Prize, joined the judging panel. Barry Warsaw followed, joining in 2009 as that year’s winner. The current winner, Yaw Anokwa, will serve on the panel for the first time in 2011.
The judges on our Pizzigati Prize Advisory Panel help develop policies for the annual prize award, shape the guidelines for the prize submission review process, select awardees, and serve as overall ambassadors for the prize initiative.
In selecting the Advisory Panel, Tides Foundation has looked for individuals who, over the course of their careers, have demonstrated:
- a significant range and depth of knowledge in the field of public interest software.
- a commitment to honoring and developing this field.
- an ability to think critically about the field and leaders within it.
