About the Pizzigati Prize

GNU Mailman is free software licensed under the GNU Public License. A mailing list management application that provides an easy-to-use Web interface for managing mailing lists, GNU Mailman, first unveiled in 1996, has since become the online world's most popular free mailing list manager.

Hundreds of nonprofit sites, from software development projects and community outreach efforts to advocacy organizations and religious groups, are currently using Mailman. Nonprofits find it an extremely reliable tool for using  email mailing lists as a primary communication vehicle among members.

Mailman is written in Python, an open source object-oriented programming language. The software is freely available from www.list.org and comes included with many operating system distributions.
